The central defenders on FC Barcelona’s roster have been injured several times this season.

In November of last year, Ronald Koeman had no choice but to turn to the subsidiary for help. Although many La Masia gems, such as Ilaix Moriba, Riqui Puig, and Alex Collado, have long been established, Oscar Mingueza was never considered a star of the academy who would go on to form seasons with the first team.

Mingueza has been trusted in many different positions in Barça’s backline by the Dutch boss, and the youngster has excelled in every way, barring the occasional mistake. Mingueza has been called upon by Garci Pimienta to play in Barça B’s promotion playoff game against UCAM Murcia, despite the fact that Barça’s La Liga hopes are all but over. The club also made the announcement official.

The 21-year-old has been sublime for the first team, making 38 appearances in all competitions and fitting in near-perfectly. For the Blaugranas’ defence, Mingueza’s aggression, positional intellect, and passing skill have made him a Swiss army knife.
