Despite his contractual commitment to move to Catalonia, Barcelona defender Emerson will remain at Real Betis for the 2021/22 La Liga season.

At the start of the 2019/20 season, the Brazilian international was signed as part of a one-of-a-kind joint financial operation between the two Spanish clubs.

The 22-year-old joined the Andalusians on a two-year loan contract, with Barcelona holding the option to buy him outright for €6 million this summer, according to the terms of the agreement.

Real Betis will allow Barcelona to bring him to Camp Nou in 2022 to finish the final two years of his contract at a discounted price of €2 million, according to reports from Diario AS.

Real Betis are unlikely to persuade Barcelona to consent to a complete move, with the Catalans assured of obtaining a price of €25 million or more for him in the future.
