From next season on, LeBron James will no longer wear the No. 23 jersey for the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will change his jersey number from 23 to 6 for the start of next season. Anthony Davis is anticipated to keep the No. 3 jersey he wore when the Purple and Gold won their first NBA championship in 2020.

James began his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, wearing the number 23 on his jersey. When he joined the Miami Heat in 2010, he moved to No. 6 because the No. 23 jersey had been retired in honour of Michael Jordan. With the Florida-based team, he went on to win two championships.

When the Lakers acquired Davis in 2019, James wanted to return to No. 6, according to the Athletic, but Nike opposed the idea. Because they had already created garments with James’ No.23, the American sportswear behemoth would have suffered tens of millions in losses.
