Davis had 36 points, but it wasn’t enough to beat Portland’s guards.

Never underestimate a champion’s willpower. On Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers faced the Portland Trail Blazers in a game that should have been a rout. The Lakers were without LeBron James, Dennis Schroder, and Talen Horton-Tucker on the road against a team that had plagued them for years. Anthony Davis and Alex Caruso were both in pain as they played.

The defending champions, on the other hand, put up a valiant fight. The game was tied late in the fourth quarter, and the Lakers would have won had it not been for a few questionable calls and some poor bounces. Unfortunately, they lost 106-101, and the Lakers are now facing the play-in round with just a week or so remaining in the regular season.
