Barcelona has been linked with a move for Shkodran Mustafi, whose contract with FC Schalke 04 expires later this month.
According to a report from Spanish daily El Gol Digital, La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are exploring a summer deal for FC Schalke 04 defender Shkodran Mustafi and have made contact with the player’s camp to gauge interest.
Mustafi joined Schalke after his contract with Premier League heavyweights Arsenal was terminated in January of this year.
In the second half of the 2020/21 season, the 29-year-old German international played just 13 times for the club as they were relegated from the Bundesliga.
The defender will be a free agent at the end of the month after signing only a six-month contract with Schalke.
According to the report, the 29-year-old has previous experience in Spain, having spent two years with Valencia before joining Arsenal, making him an even more appealing alternative for the Blaugrana.
It’s now up to Barcelona to decide whether to pursue the former Arsenal defender or pursue a another route. Mustafi, on the other hand, is a target for the Catalan giants, who are looking to shake things up under new president Joan Laporta.
