Barcelona is apparently preparing an offer for AS Roma captain and midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, who is also a target for Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona are planning an opening offer to gain the services of Italian international midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini from Serie A club AS Roma in the summer, according to a report from Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo.

Pellegrini, a product of AS Roma’s development system, made his first-team debut for the Giallorossi in 2015 before joining Sassuolo in the summer of the same year. After two years with the Neroverdi, the midfielder returned to Roma in 2017 and has been a constant presence in the middle of the park ever since, making 152 appearances for the club, scoring 21 goals and providing 34 assists in the process.

Last season, Pellegrini was promoted to the position of club captain. While Roma’s season was not particularly noteworthy, as they finished seventh in Serie A, the 24-year-old led by example, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists in 47 games while switching between several midfield spots.

Pellegrini was called up to the Italy national squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament after a strong season, but he has been ruled out due to a muscle injury received in training earlier this week. Despite losing out on the European Championships, the 24-year-old is drawing serious interest from European teams ahead of the summer transfer window, as he enters the final year of his Roma deal.
