Barcelona has reportedly set their sights on LOSC Lille defender Sven Botman in the summer transfer window as they strive to improve their backline.
Botman finished the season with a total of 47 appearances in all competitions, with a single assist to show for it. The 21-year-quick old’s development and ascension to become one of the greatest defenders in Ligue 1 over the past year has piqued the curiosity of a number of prominent clubs throughout Europe, including Manchester United.
And now it appears that Barcelona has joined the race to sign Botman this summer, and for good cause. In 2020/21, the Catalans’ defence did not have the best of seasons, with Gerard Pique dealing with fitness concerns as he approaches the end of his career and Clement Lenglet suffering from a slump in form.
Botman, a left-footed centre-back, checks a number of boxes for Barcelona, as he is strong in the air, skilled with the ball in his hands, and has solid defensive nous. And, at the age of 21, the Dutchman will only get better with time and experience.
