Carlo Ancelotti is said to be considering Alex Meret as a backup goalkeeper for Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti has identified Alex Meret as a potential backup goalkeeper target for the summer transfer season, according to Spanish publication Defensa Central. If Real Madrid sends Andriy Lunin out on loan, the 24-year-old Italian international might be chased.

Alex Meret has been with Napoli since 2018, having joined the Partenopei on a loan transfer from Udinese before making the transfer permanent in the summer of 2019. Since then, the 24-year-old goalkeeper has had to share game time with David Ospina, which proved to be the case in 2020/21 as well.

However, a deal is unlikely to happen this summer because Napoli are unwilling to cut ways with Meret. Even if the Serie A heavyweights had been willing to sell him, they would have demanded roughly €25 million, which Real Madrid would not have matched.
