Pep Guardiola issued an injury update on Ilkay Gundogan, who left the pitch in the 56th minute of Manchester City’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton with an apparent knee injury.

The Germany international has been a crucial member of Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven this season, so any injury in the run-up to the Champions League final in eleven days would be devastating for the squad.

Pep Guardiola gave an update on the injured midfielder after the match at the Amex Stadium.

“He was slightly wounded. It was a blast. He began the second half with muscle aches and pains from not being able to run properly “He told BT Sport about it.

With little time left until Manchester City’s crucial Champions League match against Chelsea in Porto, any questions about Ilkay Gundogan’s fitness would likely weigh heavily on the Manchester City manager.

“We’ll see tomorrow,” he said. The doctor is positive, but he had a kick and was running with a disturbance in the second half, so we decided not to chance it.”

Ilkay Gundogan will be given ten days to recover from his injury and return to full fitness.

And, if his recovery is good, the 30-year-old would almost certainly be an automatic starter for Pep Guardiola in the Champions League final, based on his incredible performances this season.
