Real Madrid is said to be in the running to sign Brazilian midfielder Gerson from Flamengo in the upcoming transfer season.

According to a report from Brazil, which was reported by Spanish daily Fichajes, La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have set their sights on Flamengo midfielder Gerson as a target for the summer transfer season.

Gerson came through the ranks of Brazilian side Fluminense’s development system and, after making quite an impression on his first-team debut, moved to Europe, signing with AS Roma in 2016. The 24-year-old, however, had a forgettable stint in Rome, and after three years in the nation, which included a loan spell at Fiorentina, he returned to his motherland, signing with Flamengo  in 2019.

Gerson has been able to get his career back on track in style since joining the Brazilian heavyweights. Indeed, the 24-year-old has made 96 appearances for Flamengo, scoring six goals and assisting ten more, winning two league crowns, one Brazilian Super Cup, and one Copa Libertadores in the process.

Gerson’s rise to popularity in Brazil has sparked renewed interest from Europe, with Barcelona reportedly interested in signing the 24-year-old. While reports on that front have died down recently, Real Madrid has resurfaced as a serious candidate to recruit the Brazilian midfielder this summer.
