On Monday, Real Madrid received a big boost with the announcement that central defender Raphael Varane has accelerated his return to first-team play.
The Frenchman returned to training on Monday by playing on the grass, according to Diario AS, and could be back in action as soon as the weekend.
It’s a quick recovery from the microtear in his right adbuctor muscle that he sustained last week, but he’s not expected to be fit to play against Granada in La Liga this week.
He does, however, expect to return this weekend to face Athletic Bilbao, as well as play in the final game of the season against Villarreal.
It’s a timely boost for Madrid, who are still without captain Sergio Ramos due to injury, as well as right-back duo Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, who are both expected to miss the rest of the season.
In recent weeks, Eder Militao and Nacho Fernandez have formed the central defensive duo.
